Anna Juhlin, film still from Poet of the Elephant House, 2010

In the exhibition space at the Puänt Bookshop, Tallinn Photomonth presents a short film by Anna Juhlin.

Poet of the Elephant House is a personal story about the life of a grandfather, told by his grandchild. Lütfi Özkök was born in Istanbul in 1923 but an interest in French poetry later brought him to Paris, where in the 1940’s he met the love of his life, Ann-Marie, and moved with her to Stockholm where he has lived ever since. He became a poet and a photographer of Swedish and international poets, writers and artists. With stills from past and present, filmed meetings, voices and tones the director pieces together her own thoughts and those of her grandfather on pictures, words and poetry.

Anna Juhlin (b. 1988) is an artist living in Stockholm, Sweden. She has previously studied film, animation, illustration and picture book making, audio walks and gardening. She is currently involved in ethnology, cultural heritage and museum studies and is interested in storytelling, the archeology of memories, pastness and the use of history.
