Antoine Verhaverbeke’s concert

30.09 21:00

Kanuti Gild SAAL basement hall

Antoine Verhaverbeke is a longtimer of Helsinki’s experimental music scene. He uses an electric guitar to play live compositions stretching from minimal electronics to dense overtones where melodies and noises collide. Improvised soundscapes build up as a reflection of the surrounding space and objects within it, evolving organically through feedback loops and minimal live samples.

In many ways, Antoine and the two visual artists in Suspended Shifts – Tuukka Kaila and Oskari Parkkinen – operate on common ground with shared objectives. In their respective fields all three search for ways of interacting with and responding to the immediacy of the space around them. Although the manifestations of the ongoing exploration vary tremendously between the artists, the lingering and often subtle shifts between recognizable referents and abstract form are acutely present throughout the work. Antoine’s musical performance among the artworks brings another layer of interpretation to the exhibition space.

The concert takes place in the exhibition space of Suspended Shifts and is part of the main programme of Tallinn Photomonth contemporary art biennial.
