Vaal: Peeter Laurits

Vaal Gallery was established in 1990 as the first private gallery in Estonia. Vaal operates on the diverse contemporary art landscape as an arbiter, providing an overview of the most outstanding works of Estonian art and bringing new trends in contemporary art to the public. At the fair, Vaal presents the works by Peeter Laurits (b 1962), who lives and works in Estonia. He has enriched the apparatus for photographic expression and expanded the role of the photograph in the Estonian cultural space. His work can be found in collections in Estonia, Scandinavia, USA etc. Peeter Laurits decided to become a photographer a long time ago when he realized with painful clarity that a photograph is taken for unconditional Truth in our society. Since then, he has been proclaiming his own truth through supreme digital assemblages where primal nature, tradition and fantastical technology meet.
